Shallotte, NC – After serving on the ATMC Board of Directors for more than 30 years, ATMC Board President, Douglas H. Hawes has announced his retirement from the Board of Directors. In his three decades of service, he has been instrumental in keeping ATMC relevant in a changing industry by helping to transform it from a telephone cooperative into the full-service communications provider that it is today.

Following in the footsteps of his father, who also served on the ATMC Board of Directors, Hawes began his tenure in March of 1990. A retired retail banker and real estate broker, Hawes has strong ties to the Brunswick County community. In addition to the ATMC Board, he has represented ATMC nationally on the NTCA’S Rural Broadband PAC and regionally on the Carolinas-Virginias Telephone Membership Association Board.

Hawes served as the Vice President for the Board from 2012 to 2014 before stepping into his current role as President. Over the past six years under Hawes leadership as President, ATMC has experienced a period of unprecedented growth. Through the company’s strategic five-year expansion plan, ATMC expanded fiber optic services into new residential and business areas throughout Brunswick and Columbus Counties while also greatly improving internet speeds in cooperative areas including Ocean Isle Beach, Holden Beach, St. James, and many of the county’s most rural areas.
