FOCUS Broadband Warns Customers of Scam Calls and Fake Technical Support Numbers
Shallotte, NC – FOCUS Broadband is alerting customers to multiple ongoing scams involving unsolicited phone calls and misleading online search results that falsely claim an affiliation between FOCUS Broadband and Spectrum.
FOCUS Broadband has received reports that customers are receiving unsolicited calls from sales agents claiming to be FOCUS Broadband representatives. During these calls, scammers attempt to obtain personal and account information by providing false information about products and services or by stating that FOCUS Broadband is going out of business. The information obtained is then used to cancel or make changes to customer accounts, or in some cases, to switch customers to another provider without their consent.
FOCUS Broadband wants customers to know the following:
- FOCUS Broadband does not make outbound calls using toll-free numbers. Legitimate calls from FOCUS Broadband will come from a North Carolina area code (910), followed by a local Brunswick County prefix (755 or 754).
- FOCUS Broadband will never tell customers that they are required to switch to another internet service provider.
- FOCUS Broadband will never request personal or account information during unsolicited calls.
- FOCUS Broadband’s call center and representatives are based in the United States, and calls are not handled by third-party call centers from another country.
- FOCUS Broadband does not partner with national internet service providers (Spectrum, AT&T, etc.) to provide service.
If you receive an unsolicited call of this nature, do not provide any information and hang up immediately. Customers who are unsure whether a call is legitimate or have questions about information found online are encouraged to contact FOCUS Broadband directly using official contact information.
