FOCUS Broadband Expands Fiber Optic Network to Southport
Southport, NC – Multi-gigabit broadband service delivered over a 100% fiber optic network is now available in the first phases of FOCUS Broadband's expansion project in the City of Southport. Residents and businesses in the downtown area near West Saint George Street and West Brown Street can now order high-speed internet, as well as wireless, security, and smart home automation services.
"We're pleased to bring our high-speed internet service to Southport," said FOCUS Broadband CEO, Keith Holden. "For years, we've received requests to expand into the downtown area, and thanks to the city's project to move utilities underground, we've been able to extend our fiber optic network into parts of Southport."
In addition to the downtown area, FOCUS Broadband has made services available in parts of Osprey Landing, Cades Cove and along portions of West 9th Street and North Lord Street. Construction is currently underway in areas west of North Howe Street between West Street and Bay Street, with service expected to become available in the coming months. Expansion to additional areas will take place as the project to move utilities underground continues.
To better serve customers in Southport and surrounding communities, FOCUS Broadband will soon open a new customer care location on Long Beach Road in the Food Lion shopping center. "We want to make it as convenient as possible for customers to do business with us," shared Holden. "This new store will allow us to provide even better local support for customers in Southport, Boiling Spring Lakes, and St. James. We anticipate opening this location in October."
This expansion follows an earlier effort by FOCUS Broadband to support connectivity in Southport. In 2023, the company awarded the City of Southport a $10,000 Connect Grant to install free public Wi-Fi in city parks. The project expanded internet access for visitors and vendors alike, helping to enhance digital inclusion and support community events.
