FOCUS Broadband Brings Fiber Optic Service to Duplin County and Connects First Customer

Duplin County, NC – FOCUS Broadband has announced that service is now available to customers in some areas of rural Duplin County. Residents and businesses near Rose Hill, Duff Creek, Brices Crossroads and Teachey can now sign up for fiber optic, high-speed internet with speeds of up to 1 Gig.

“FOCUS Broadband is excited to begin offering service to residents and businesses in Duplin County,” said Keith Holden, FOCUS Broadband CEO. “These communities have waited a long time for access to reliable, high-speed internet, and we are thankful to be able to provide connectivity to those who need it.”

Willie Fennell, a resident of Rose Hill, was thrilled to now have access to FOCUS Broadband’s high-speed internet, "I was very excited to hear that FOCUS Broadband was coming,” commented Fennell. “I got the number, made a call, it was very simple. From what I read, and what I've seen, I would highly recommend FOCUS Broadband."

The area in which service is now available is the first of many that is being built by FOCUS Broadband with funds awarded to the company through the NC GREAT grant program by Governor Roy Cooper’s office and the NC Department of Information Technology (NCDIT). FOCUS Broadband has won three grants totaling more than $6 million in grant funding to serve Duplin County and will be investing more than $2.3 million to complete these projects.

While this area marks the first to have service available from FOCUS Broadband, additional areas near Rose Hill will have service available before the end of October. When all three grant projects are completed, over 2,000 addresses in rural Duplin County will have access to high-speed internet. Customers who qualify and sign up for the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Plan can receive a monthly discount of up to $30 off the price of internet service with some options that would provide internet service at no cost.
