Mandatory Ten Digit Dialing Coming This Month for ATMC Landline Subscribers
Shallotte, NC – Starting October 24th,all landline telephone users within the 910 area code will be required to dial the area code plus the seven digit telephone number for every non-long distance call placed. After that time, calls dialed using only seven digits will not be completed and a recording will inform callers that the call cannot be completed as dialed. Telephone numbers, including the current area code, will not be impacted by this change. Long distance calls made from a landline are still required to dial a one plus the area code and the seven-digit telephone number to be completed.
Ten-digit dialing is being implemented nationwide to make way for a new three-digit number (988), which has been designated as a way to reach the National Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Lifeline. "Earlier this year, we began encouraging ATMC landline users to start using ten digits when making calls. We feel that this will be an easy transition for most customers, because 10-digit dialing is already required when making calls via a wireless phone," said Keith Holden, ATMC CEO.
Prior to October 24th, landline users should check important safety and security equipment to ensure those systems are programmed to use 10-digit dialing and make necessary changes to personal and business stationery, advertising materials, personal and business checks, contact information and other such items to ensure the area code is included.
