FOCUS Broadband Scholarships Awarded to Local Seniors

Shallotte, NCFOCUS Broadband has awarded five local high school seniors with $2,000 scholarships based on their academics, involvement in school and community activities, and interview skills. Recipients include Charlotte Bland of South Brunswick High School, Peyton Blosser of South Columbus High School, Presley Cerrillo of Brunswick County Early College High School, Amanda Jacobs of West Brunswick High School and Rachel Kemp of North Brunswick High School.

Bland is the daughter of Amy and Greg Bland of Southport and plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro to major in Spanish. Blosser, son of John and Sherry Blosser of Nakina, plans to attend North Carolina State University where he will study biochemistry. Cerrillo is the daughter of Edgar Cerrillo Espinoza and Antonia Tranquilino of Calabash. She plans to study dentistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jacobs, daughter of Sammy and Nicole Jacobs of Shallotte, will attend Appalachian State University with plans to major in elementary education. Kemp of Leland is the daughter of Cheryl and Scott Napier. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to study graphic design.

“We are happy to assist these bright individuals in advancing their education,” said Keith Holden, FOCUS Broadband CEO. “We look forward to seeing all of the incredible things they will accomplish.” Since the program’s inception in 2002, FOCUS Broadband has awarded $123,000 to 76 students. Scholarships are available to high school seniors living in any of FOCUS Broadband’s service territories.
